Model Mayhem: Valley of Fire (Pt. 2)

Did you miss Pt. 1? Click Here

Happy Wednesday!!! What a busy day it has been. This morning the phone was ringing non-stop and I think I got a call from almost all the different categories: wedding, senior, baby, and family. *Yikes!* My mom flew in at noon and then it was rush rush to get baby down for a nap for a 1pm wedding consultation. After all the craziness of this morning it feels nice to just sit and blog. I’ve been excited to share Part 2 with you since last week and look forward to hearing some feedback on this very interesting set.

Have you ever gone out with a plan only to throw it out the window completely? These photos with Natalie were exactly like that. I have a feeling that people will either love or totally hate them. They certainly are a little……different. BUT, as you might already know–I happen to like different. : )

And a special thank you to Natalie who did a stellar job jumping into character and making these pictures the pieces of art they are. You rock Nat!!

All photos were shot with my Canon 5D Mark II and 24-105mm lens

I can’t help thinking “X-Men” when I see this picture. Natalie made this cool pose and there ya go! In the same way as M. Mayhem Pt. 1 I metered my light off the clouds and then adjusted my strobes for the model. Coolest trick ever.

ISO 100 / 28mm / F 6.3 / 1-200 sec

There was a little bit of wind during this part of our shoot that kicked up Nat’s hair in the shots. Love love!

Natalie Quote:

I just want you to know that I refuse to put my M.K (Michael Kors) on the ground. I mean, I will seriously kill you if it gets hurt.”

ISO 100 / 30mm / F 5.6 / 1-300 sec

With this photo the focus is really the purse, which then brings your eye to Natalie’s face. In editing I created a swirl to the background, but I think it might be a little lost in the picture?

Oh I almost forgot! So, you technically aren’t supposed to take these kinds of photos IN the Valley of Fire National Park unless you have extra special permission. However, when I called to ask about getting my hands on a permit the guy who gave me the permit just happened to be brand new and did not know all of the “rules”. So, when we showed up for the shoot they were none too happy, but really couldn’t do anything about it. Yay for Park Ranger Cameron!! We did get some great lectures on killing the microbes and some dirty looks from rangers, but in the end I think we won them over. It was hilarious watching all the tourists pull over to take pictures of us taking pictures…. maybe the beautiful girl walking around in the bikini helped with that too. *Lol!

Team work!!

Couldn’t resist. You are so beautiful Natalie! : )

  2. Hey again Amber : ) You seem a little unsure of yourself with these photos? Why? You are developing your own style–don’t be afraid of it. It’s nice to see the wide range of your work from the dark and gritty to the sweet and cupcake. Again I think you’ve got a natural talent and just need to not let yourself get burned out or (worse yet) compare yourself to everyone else.
